I was on the road yesterday and needed to send funds to a vendor.
Seems I had neglected to fund an escrow account for a javascript developer (in the Ukraine of all places!) and had a chance to try out PayPal's mobile money transfer service.
Rather than go caveman style and use my browser on my Droid phone (sorry iPhone, the Droid X is better) I used the PayPal app and tested out the process and interface.
Slick.
It seamlessly connected to my PayPal account and I was able to quickly send funds to the service I use to stage escrow funds.
If that's as easy as it is to send funds online or via mobile, things have come a long way since going the way of physical funds — like having to send cash via Western Union.
The interface is still a little slow, and PayPal does it's best (worst) to hit you with other un-needed offers just like they irritatingly do on their web interface, but the process is immediate, fast, and cheap.
Very nicely done. Check it out yourself.
